Facility & Animal Care Specialist

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 35 per week​

About the Position

Como Pet Lodge prides itself in its innovative ways to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and safety at our facility. While all animals in our care are fully vaccinated, large scale animal care facilities can quickly become unhealthy due to waste production and environmental factors. The sanitation of our facility directly correlates to the health and wellness of the animals in our care.

This position is physically demanding, fast paced, requires active communication skills, attention to detail, continual mental focus and teamwork. Como Pet Lodge will offer job specific training, including behavior assessment and safe handling techniques. Having a positive and calm attitude, a love for dogs, and a drive for hard work will make you an excellent addition to an amazing team.

Minimum Requirements

- Must be 18 years of age or older - Basic dog handling and behavior knowledge - Reliable transportation or a transportation plan - Able to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment with exposure to the elements - Frequently lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 60+ pounds - Proactive and able to work unsupervised, lead by example and prepared to give direction to other staff when necessary 

Experience

• Pet sitting: 1 year (Required)

• Heavy lifting: 1 year (Required)

• Pet care: 1 year (Required)

• Animal care: 1 year (Required)

• Organizational skills: 1 year (Required)

Physical Requirements

 - Able to work standing and/or walking during majority of shift - Must be able to lift 60 pounds - Use of hands, arms and shoulder in repetitive motions with occasional bending, twisting and squatting - Capable of working in a fast-paced, active indoor/outdoor settings with exposure to outside elements - Respond quickly, yet calmly in an emergency such as a dog scuffle

 

Job Requirements

• Responsible for the daily tasks required to keep the facility clean and safe: - Maintain clean and sterile kennels, cat condos and outside yards - Ensure animals have clean fresh water throughout the day - Launder and rotate bedding - Awareness of surrounding and presenting potential safety hazards to management - Yard maintenance including debris and waste removal, leaf blowing and raking - Yard beautification and expansion - Communicate identified maintenance needs for safety, repair, and creative options for problems as they are presented

• Responsible for animal health and wellness: - Daily feeding, medication administration and recording keeping of such activities - Assist in strategic movement and placement of dogs from yards and kennels during naptime and bedtime - Animal handling and behavior observation - Exhibits exemplary levels of hygiene and cleanliness and possesses an understanding of how to prevent disease transmission.

• Responsible for inventory and proper storage: - Ensure all cleaning supplies are properly labeled and stored in designated spaces - Track and maintain inventory of food, cleaning supplies, medications to ensure a continual supply on hand - Safe and accessible inventory storage - Organization, labeling and proper placement of, but not limited to, food, medications, cleaning products, leashes, waste stations, safety devices and tools, etc.

 

Compensation

- Starting pay is $15/hour or compensatory with experience, with advancement opportunities - 5 days PTO after three-month probation period - Hands on training for animal handing, dog training, basic grooming, pack therapy - No cost dog daycare and boarding - Family & medical leave, short & long term disability, workers compensation - This job does not include benefits such as health care, dental or vision
