Unfortunately, not all dogs that enter the Shelter Bypass Program are reunited with their owners, nor do they qualify to become Pack Therapy working dogs, so they are waiting for a new loving home.
The benefit of adopting Shelter Bypass Dogs is they have been with Como for an extended period of time, socialized, evaluated & we can provide insights into the dogs’ long-term needs & how to maintain the dogs healthy pliable psychology.

All dogs are current on their vaccinations, altered & will receive discounted boarding for life at Como!

Tito is a 4-year-old high energy German Shepherd Mix with a big bark.
His owner's health started failing to the point where he became disabled, so Como assumed for his care & committed to finding him a new home.
He has a wide-eyed zeal for life, loves to play ball, likes people & affection, has great recall & would love to be a hiking companion.

MANTIS & GROOT- Available
Siblings Mantis (F) and Groot (M) are 3 year old Lab Chihuahua mix - yes you read that correctly. Mantis and Groot originally came from Pinal Animal County out in Eloy. Groot and Mantis were found as feral pups out in the desert. It took Pinal multiple attempts to capture them, they were very smart!
They have spent most of their life at Como, are a bonded pair & need to be adopted together to a calm & patient home. Groot has developed coping skills & has made more progress than his sister, Mantis. While they have mixed with 100’s of dogs during their stay, we suggest dog introductions for this pair if other dogs are in the home. Groot really wants to be a lap dog, while Mantis is still shy & insecure.
Mantis is a very sweet girl and loves getting pets and cuddles. She also loves play wrestling with our staff and swimming in the kiddy pools in the summer. Mantis takes a while to warm up to people and does not like leashes yet.
Groot is a playful boy and does great walking on a leash once he trusts you. Groot takes time to warm up to people too and surprisingly can be more shy than his sister Mantis with new people. Groot loves swimming in the summer in the kiddy pools too with his sister.
Mantis and Groot love other dogs and get along great with others at daycare. Because Groot and Mantis were feral, they are very bonded to one another and we do not want them separated from one another. With the right person and patience they both would be excellent family dogs!

An ideal home will patiently help build Mantis’ confidence with her brothers assistance. We believe the result will be loving cuddle bugs & worth the work.
ROSIE - Available
Rosie is a small (35 pounds), is obsessed with anything that resembles a soccer ball. She is a 10-year-old boxer mix with a “broken bark” that sounds like a seal due to debarking surgery from a previous owner.
She is not spayed due to her age. We have been unable to find an affordable organization willing to have her undergo anesthesia at her age.
She is dog friendly/tolerant, likely due to her small stature and possible breeding in her past. She prefers male dogs, as she came to us to work through same sex aggression. She is a talky girl with her cute little seal sounds & will go home with a complimentary soccer ball!
MAIZY - Available
Since coming toComo, Maizy has been working on her socialization with strangers and general outings to help her build her confidence. All Maizy needs is a little patience from her new family to blossom!
Maizy is great with all other sizes of dogs and has amazing play language with others.
Maizy would do best in a home with another playful housemate. She would also be better in a home with older children as she gets nervous and scared easily by loud noises. Maizy can also be collar sensitive when she is scared and just needs some patience and reassurance that she is okay.
SPYRO - Available
SPYRO is about a 3-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix, & came to us through Shelter By-Pass Program because he was too hyper for his owners. Como had hoped to train him to become a Como Pack Therapy dog, but he didn’t pass our requirements. He is playful, high energy & has a high intensity for life.
WESLEY - Available
WESLEY is a 4-5 year old male Shar Pie/Chow mix. While he looks mostly Shar Pei, he has the distinguishable black tongue of a chow chow. He came to us through the Shelter-Pass Program because of domestic violence in his household & was protecting a baby from an abusive husband & father. Unfortunately, Westly was not to be able to be reunified with the family he protected. He loves to sunbathe & is very playful. He gets along well with other dogs & we suggest older children in a home because he is such a playful goofball.
SPECTOR- Available
SPECTOR is a 5-year-old Shepherd/Greyhound mix & is the ultimate love muffin! He will wiggle his way into your heart & lap. He craves snuggles & affection. He came to Como as a boarding dog. He was intended to be a companion for a teenage boy, but he bonds better with women. We offered to take over his care with hopes on becoming one of our Como Crew for Pack Therapy. After spending a little over a year with Como, staff agreed that he is a people dog & needs a family! His intensity for love is almost equal to his amount of shedding. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! He can be a bit of a scaredy cat in unfamiliar situations, but is all around a big baby that loves to give & get hugs. During his time at Como, he has been our go to boy to help shy dogs acclimate to the pack.
CLIFF - Available
CLIFF is a loving 5-year-old pitbull with a bravado attitude mixed with stranger danger. He does great with other dogs given a proper introduction & his bark gets loud when he is nervous. Once you have let him acclimate & gain his trust, you find yourself a happy bouncing ball of love that will snuggle under blankets.
KILO- Available
KILO is a 5-6 year old Anatolian Shepherd & lived in a bedroom for most of his young life, which is very difficult on the psyche of his breed. He is very mellow, nicknamed Mellow Yellow. He does well with other dogs, & is the Peacekeeper in a pack. Due to poor socialization with people as a puppy, he has ingrained stranger danger & is a shy boy. All Kilo wants is a safe quiet home to call his own, be loved on & cuddled everyday.
MYLO- Available
MYLO is a 1.5 year old Anatolian Shepherd mix & started coming to Como as a puppy for socialization & training through our Individual Behavior Therapy Program. During his time at Como, he has developed into an amazing dog, but since he is still in puppyhood, he gets into things when he is bored. His owners had to move to Phoenix & decided he needed a better home than they could provide for him. He is good with large & small dogs & likes to spend time with his BFF, Bella. He is knows basic commands, has good recall & is handler focused. He is a high energy & active breed, so he would need a large backyard.
BELLA - Available
BELLA is a 4-year-old Malinois, that we call “Mali-gator” because she is very playful with her mouth. As a result, she is only mixed with larger dogs. Her owners were getting too old to properly care for her due to her size & energy, so Como agreed to help look for a home for her. She is best friends with another dog available for adoption, Malo. She loves to play & lounge in the day but prefers to be in a calm kennel at night. She was almost selected to be a Como Pack Therapy Dog, but staff saw her desire for a family & place to call her own
KODI - Available
Kodi is a high-energy, loyal, sensitive, overly attentive 6-year-old Border Collie mix that spent the first four years of his life in an apartment. Como has been working with him for two years, teaching him how to be a dog & harness his breed tendencies. He has excellent recall & high trainability. He needs a home that understands his breed, which includes a lot of activity, & that his motivation is very people oriented. It takes a lot to wear this boy out, but he may settle down once with a family in a home setting.

BRUCE - Available
BRUCE & his brother, Enzo, came to Como after being raised in a home filled with domestic violence, substance abuse & divorce. Bruce is a 4-year-old Shephard X, has trust issues with people, needs a home where he will feel safe & allow his confidence to grow. He is good with other dogs but needs an experienced dog owner committed to his rehabilitation. His brother, Enzo, was adopted to a Canine Decompression Specialist at Pima Animal Care Center. Bruce needs a similar home with someone skilled in canine psychology & patience required to earn to earn his trust .
ACHILLES - Available
ACHILLES is a 5-year-old big & healthy Husky Shepard mix - the amount of shedding is proof enough of this breed combination! Achilles has been though both rescues & shelters in his life & has ingrained stranger danger as a result. Once you earn his trust, he is a loving, playful & protective dog with a big bark. He startles easily by loud or unusual noises so it can be hard to mix him with other dogs that disturb his routine. He needs a home that understands the impact that shelter environments has this breed combinations psyche.

Beau-Tie - Adopted!
BEAU is a highly athletic & strong boy. He is goofy & gets the zoomies to show you he is happy. He found his way to Como because the owners daughter was disabled & could no longer care for him. He is a 2-3 year old lab mix we call the Court Jester. He loves to be spoiled & he loves to spoil you back with lots of face licks & cuddling - like a lot! He has gotten better with training, but is still very much a puppy & learning the meaning of personal space. With clear, calm training he will be an amazing companion.
Mowgli - Adopted!
MOWGLI is a handsome 7-8 year old lab/terrier mix. His owners adopted a St. Bernard puppy & chose the puppy because they didn’t get along as he was raised with a pack of chihuahuas. Being a “senior” dog, he spends most of his time up at the house. Over the summer he joined Como’s founders on an RV trip to the east coast, which he did great on! He makes a great napping companion & loves to curl up on or next to you. He has good recall, still gets goofy when excited & romps around with a grin. Given his age, he will continue to need joint health supplements & occasional pain medication, but otherwise in good health. Tim & Kari have grown very fond of Mowgli so would like a family where he can come back for boarding to visit his two & four legged Como Family.
Athena - Adopted!
ATHENA, 3 years old, is a typical German Shepherd, reserved but friendly, can be hyperactive, over vigilant & has a strong nurturing mother instinct. She is a long, slinky, beautiful shepherd with a big bark & even bigger ears! She came to us via a PHX nonprofit, Lost our Homes, that helps people & pets experiencing crisis, & her owner found herself homeless with two sibling dogs. She found a home for Athena’s brother, hoping she could keep one dog while homeless, & proved to be too unmanageable. She will likely need bi-monthly allergy shots, but otherwise is a very healthy dog.
Hades - Adopted!
Don’t let the name full you, HADES is a high energy partner for life with good recall. He is a small (45 pounds) 3-year-old cattle dog mix. Cattle dogs can be a little insecure, so while he does well with other dogs, he is cautious, always on alert & gets stressed if he is in or around a dog scuffle. Cattle dogs form strong bonds with their humans & Hades is in need of finding his person to help him feel more secure & confident.
BoBo - Adopted!
We aren’t fully sure of BO’s age, but is a senior man, we guess to be around 10 years old. Bo is a bully breed mix who exists in the sun, spends his time sunbathing & heating his joints. He is good with other dogs, but can be sensitive to touch given his age. He needs a calm home where he can live out his golden years in rays of sunshine.
ENZO - Adopted!
Enzo is a very loyal, little, but mighty guy. He is best friends with our pitbull hound mix, Brennan. He still takes a minute to warm up to new people but once he opens up, there's nothing brighter than his personality. He is learning to walk good on a leash and is getting better with receiving attention. He has so far come a very long way. Please come down and hang out with Enzo today!

Buddy is perhaps the most fitting name you could give this guy as he would make the best friend to one lucky family. He is the MOST affectionate, loving, enthusiastic, most cuddly dog anyone could ever ask for. He's looking for a family, preferably single dog household where he can be loved and cared for as he would do the same for anyone.

Who runs the world? GIRLS! Molly is most definitely runs our CPL world... this tom boy is a firecracker when her personality comes out. As fast as she strides across the yard, she'll steal your heart, although it'll take a little bit for her to let you steal her heart. Molly found a perfect home with a white pittie BFF! She settled right in and is happy as ever. Congratulations Molly!
Bruha - Adopted!
This sweet boy is what fluffy dreams are made of. You would never know the matted and scared dog that hid in the corner of his cage when he first arrived would become such a playful, trusting, free spirit. Bruha, now Maxx, found the best forever home. He gets to snuggle in bed all day and do what he does best, look absolutely adorable. Yay Maxx!
BERENSTEIN - Adopted!
Just like his cousin Bruha, Berenstein and his sister Mau are also what fluffy dreams are made of. We are diligently working with Berenstein on his human socialization and his containment issues. Mau and Berenstien are litter mates. They have been together since day one and Mau is not about to let anyone forget it... She loves her brother very much, even when he steals her food! Mau got adopted by a worker here at CPL she is actually now a full time therapy dog! They have made great progress with being bale to handle her, she actually enjoys it now! Come meet her and see her progress anytime!

Broken parts don't mean broken hearts! Keaton is missing his left hind leg, but you would never know it if he sees a rabbit! Here at pack we call Keaton, Grandpa Keaton, and unlike some of the drivers in Oro Valley during snowbird season, Keaton is very fast! He keeps everyone in the pack on their best behavior! Keaton found a loving home with a sweet husky to be his pal. He is so happy in his furever home.
SCOOP! (AKA SCOOB) - Adopted!
Scoop is 6 years old and has the most wise soul you'll ever meet. His affectionate personality makes for the most perfect companion- he loves cuddling and one on one walks. He is undoubtedly our most adoptable dog, Scoop's biggest wish is to find a home where he can be loved, snuggled, and give all the kisses, and his wish came true! Scoop now lives with some cats and has a little human to be his best friend! It was love at first sight!

This Shepard mix embodies everything you know and love about German Shepards. Loving, loyal, playful and spunky. Miss Baton, Now Maddie, has found a sweet, calm, and patient couple who have been able to meet all her needs beautifully. We are so happy for you and your new family Maddie!
